Chris Jaeger - Theatre Lighting Design

Biography

Chris has been a Theatre Lighting Designer for the past 40 years, working with a wide range of companies, lighting Dance, Opera, Musical and Drama. He trained at LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) graduating in 1981.

His first Lighting Design was “Swan Lake”, for “London City Ballet” in 1982. He went on to tour and light LCB for 6 years as resident Lighting Designer. Then he moved into the freelance market in the late 80's Lighting and Touring many Musicals, Plays and Opera's.

His West End debut was "Coriolanus" and "The Winters Tale" for the "English Shakespeare Company" at the "Aldrich Theatre" after a successful world tour, followed by "Timon Of Athens" for the "English National Opera" at the "London Coliseum" in 1990.

Throughout the 90's Chris continued to light Opera, Musicals and Drama and also began working With Bob Carlton and lit many productions including "Return To The Forbidden Planet" and "From A Jack To A King" which toured throughout the UK and then went on to work with Bob Carltons Theatre Company “Cut To The Chase” as Lighting Design Consultant at the “The Queens Theatre Hornchurch”

Entering into a new millennium, and saw Chris move and settle in the South of France and then became involved in Romania with his old friend and colleague, Ion Caramitru at the “National Theatre Bucharest TNB” as a Lighting Designer Consultant and has lit many productions at the National Theatre and also with the National Opera in Bucharest. This led to other Lighting Design projects throughout Romania, together with teaching Lighting Design at various educational facilities and Theatres.

In 2017 Chris was invited to light "No Man's Land" by Danis Tanovic and adapted for the stage and Directed by Alexander Morfov and "The Seagull" Directed by Nina Nikolik for the "Macedonian National Theatre" in Skopje.

In 2019 after lighting "Noil Infractri" Directed by Ion Caramitru in March and "The Merchant Of Venice" Directed by Alexander Morfov in September at the "TNB" Bucharest, he was invited to light "Othello", Directed by Nina Nikolik at the Peoples National Theatre in Zenica, Bosnia (BNP) which went on to tour throughout the Balkans.

As Theatres begin to open again and we get an audience back again due to the Covid virus, Chris is looking forward to future project throughout 2022/23 and beyond.
